Hard at work: Aganang Mayor, Manoko Masehela spent 67 minutes building a house at Ga Matalala
By America Ngwepe
In line with spending an estimated 67 minutes doing community services, the Mayor of Aganang Local Municipality, Mmanoko Masehela started building a two-roomed house for Sebale Christina Mabe (75) in Matlala, Ga Mahoai as part of celebrating on Mandela day.
She was joined by other municipal councillors, officials and the community at large while local builders also offered their time and skills in building this house.
The building materials like cement, window, door frames and corrugated iron were donated by Dada Jedwood Hardware while Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) donated 600 bricks.
For Madiba: Masehela starting a founding while other councillors looks on
Mabe’s house was destroyed by storms and a donated ten was her homebut that set to be history very soon.
The Mayor later visited African Methodist Episcopal Church in Tibane, were she donated clothes to orphans in the area were she was joined by Community Development Workers (CDW’s) in donating groceries to the family of the late CDW, Winnie Ratau in Moletjie Ga- Mabitsela.
Masehela said the municipality is humbled to be doing something for the less fortunate people like Mme Mabe in honour for Madiba.
“After assessing the conditions that she is facing daily, we decided to seek help from different donors in order to built her a house”, Masehela said.
My home: Mabe stands in front of a tent that she calls home
The thrilled Mabe could not contain her excitement on finally having a proper roof over her head as living in tent meant her winters were colder.
Mabe is currently staying by herself as she has four grown-up children who have their own homes and she depends on old age grant for survival.
