Christmas lights switch on in Polokwane

The Executive Mayor of Polokwane Cllr. Thembi Nkadimeng invites members of the public to the annual Festive Lights event to be held on Friday 04 December at the Flora Park Dam from 18h00. The Executive Mayor will deliver a festive season’s message to the residents just before switching on the Festive Lights. The switching on of the festive lights marks the official beginning of festive season for the people of Polokwane.

The festive lights event has proven to be one of the biggest family fun days for the many where all residents and visitors to the city, irrespective of their diverse nature are able to come together to enjoy the carnival and camaraderie that only the people of Polokwane can produce. Polokwane’s diverse cultural entertainment will be provided on the day and residents will be treated to a potpourri of entertainment including Christmas carols and an ensemble of local artists. The municipality is partnering with Energy FM to bring entertainment for the whole family. Residents are urged to bring along their camp chairs for an evening of fun for the whole family.

Apart from the performances, the local vendors will be in place to sell food staff suitable for everyone’s appetite and kiddies’ festive toys and other goodies that will complement the outing. It should be noted that strict street vending systems will be put in place.

Nkadimeng will switch on the Festive Lights around 19h30 and this will be followed up by a colourful display of fireworks which will run for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Since fireworks will be displayed, pet owners in the area are advised to provide shelter to their pets during this period so that they should not be disorientated by the fireworks. However, the Municipality will put measures in place to ensure that the fireworks display has minimal impact on the areas in the neighborhood of the Dam.
